Coral Springs man dies weeks after Deerfield scooter crash

A 54-year-old Coral Springs man died last week after he was injured in a T-bone collision while riding a scooter in Deerfield Beach.

Sheldon Weisbrot was driving a red 2016 Honda PCX 150 scooter east near Southwest 10th Street and Southwest Sixth Avenue about 8:30 p.m. May 5 as the driver of a blue 2018 Toyota RAV4 was heading west, approaching the Southwest Sixth Avenue intersection, the Broward Sheriff's Office said.

Weisbrot drove through the intersection while Rogelia Segura, 65, of Deerfield Beach, made a left turn onto Southwest Sixth Avenue into Weisbrot's path. He crashed into the passenger's side of Segura's Toyota, the Sheriff's Office said.

Fire Rescue crews took Segura to a hospital to be evaluated, and she was released, the Sheriff's Office said. Weisbrot was taken to Broward Health North with injuries that were life-threatening.

The Sheriff's Office learned Thursday that he died as a result of the crash. Traffic Homicide detectives are investigating.
