Nairn Bowling Club knits up cozy blankets for premature babies

KNITTERS from a bowling club in Nairn have donated a bundle of handcrafted items to a premature babies unit.

Members of Nairn Bowling Club started gathering for the 3Cs – a cuppa, a chat and cake – social afternoons in Albert Street after many winter activities were put on hold after lockdown.

Last year, the group got to work and knitted more than 60 teddy bears for children in traumatic situations which they donated to the local police station.

Now the members have created knitted baby blankets, hats and jumpers for premature babies, which were donated to Raigmore Neonatal Unit.

Club treasurer Ruth McWilliam said: "After we handed over all the Trauma Teddies our members had knitted at the end of last year, we were looking for another cause we could help out with our members knitting skills. One of our members, Elsie Tough knew that the Neonatal unit at Raigmore Hospital was always looking for tiny hats for premature babies. I contacted a friend who worked there (Staff Midwife Lynn Kinnaird) and she said that cot blankets were always needed, so our ladies set about knitting. They also knitted a selection of hats and jumpers."
